Meet the Mindful Death Doula

Susan Farrell (She/Her)
I’ve always been drawn to moments of transition. Those quiet, powerful, in-between spaces where time appears to slow, awareness deepens, and presence matters most. For many years, I worked in nonprofit leadership, advocating for women’s agency in global reproductive health. That same passion for dignity, choice, and compassion has guided me into the sacred work of end-of-life care. My path as a Death Doula began as a soul-led sabbatical once moving to North Carolina from Massachusetts in 2022. It was here, shaped by the memory of my father's death, that I felt called to ensure no one navigates their final moments without choice, support, or companionship. I am INELDA-trained, a hospice volunteer, eldercare provider, and Reiki Master. I bring a grounded, heart-centered approach to every client and family I serve, blending professional expertise with emotional and spiritual care. Whether I’m sitting at the bedside, teaching a class, or simply listening, I bring mindful presence as a steady, open-hearted companion who can hold space for grief, meaning, fear, and peace. In a world that often rushes past death, I choose to slow down. To witness. To breathe with you through the unknown. I also serve as Board President and instructor at the Center for Death Education, where I build community through death literacy and acceptance to soften the fear that too often surrounds life’s final transition. As The Mindful Death Doula, my mission is simple: to walk beside you, with compassion, clarity, and care, through one of life’s most sacred transitions.
